Vertical Dance

As some of you may know, one of my passions is rock climbing. This poem is an ode to that passion and my experience of it. Enjoy!

Vertical Dance

When I'm dancing I notice gravity pulling on my body
When I'm dancing I become weightless to my thoughts by letting them go
When I'm dancing my head is clear
When I'm dancing I no longer experience fear
when I'm dancing I feel free
When I'm dancing touching the ground isn't an option
When I'm dancing my feet are placed very carefully up in the air
When I'm dancing my legs push me up
When I'm dancing I'm moving my body in all directions
When I'm dancing my heartbeat gives me the rhythm to move on
When I'm dancing I don't close my eyes
When I'm dancing I'm fully present of what is
When I'm dancing I forget the world around me
When I'm dancing my arms hold me close
When I'm dancing my hands guide me to the next move
When I'm dancing there's nothing more to say
When I'm dancing I'm on my own
When I'm dancing I feel happy
When I'm dancing I feel complete
When I'm dancing I feel alive
When I'm dancing the rocks are the ones I hold on to
When I'm dancing letting go of the rocks will end this feeling of aliveness
When I'm dancing I'm climbing
Because climbing is for me a vertical dance.
